Attic

A small project I set myself to start playing with and learning Unreal Engine. I wanted to create a small scene that told a story with the environment, an unsettling tale of horror among innocent survival that was inspired by the level in Last of Us where the player walks through the remains of an underground school.

The scene went through a few iterations of block-out, and test renders until the final set dressing where I was happy with the lighting, prop placement and the general feel of the scene. The final props are a mixture of the incredible Megascans library and my own assets.

Initial grey box and mood/reference board, with a focus on the attic window highlighting a child's bed (that would become a teenager's bed), with a more claustrophobic camera that I later prefer to be more open to show more of a story

An early test of the scene in Unreal, placing more details like decals of blood to help foster a story and direct the player/view towards points of interest.
After this phase, I decided that the lighting's contrast was too high and saturated

Earlier iterations had the plastic table a striking blue to draw attention from the browns of the attic but ultimately would be dropped to a neutral white to fit the scene better

Closer to the finished piece, lighting and props are much more refined
